In the preoperative management of closed ankle fractures, in-cast intermittent artero-venous foot pumps were associated with earlier surgery, earlier discharge and reduced complications, according to recently published data. Researchers managed a consecutive series of 64 closed ankle fractures using the artero-venous (AV) impulse system prior to surgery.
