overweight non running retired prop does thalf marathon

on the spur of the moment I have decided to do run a half marathon in October. I retired from rugby in may, and has found my self going a bit soft around the edges ever since, and I need something to focus some energy on. I’ve never been a keen runner, I did a half marathon in 2008 but I was not properly prepared, and it took me more than 3 hours, and I vowed never again! I know there are some experienced runners on here, what is your best advice to get this going
