Pain in second toe

Last night, after sitting on the couch for a few hours, I took the dog out for a walk. I walked about ten steps, after putting my shoes on, and it felt like a wasp was stinging my toe or, I had stepped on a piece of glass. I immediately took my shoe off and checked it to see if anything was in it, there was nothing.
