Jones fracture but told no cast…?

My son (13yrs old) was diagnosed with a Jones fracture on Saturday after a fall Friday night. We were told it would heal quickly on its own and no cast was needed, was told a cast would not help with healing, and that he could apply weight whenever it was comfortable to do so.
